Originated in France, the leaves of Ocimum basilicum are steam distilled to create this refreshing oil. Both sweet and spicy, this top note oil blends well with Bergamot, Clary Sage, Clove, Eucalyptus, Juniper, Lemon, Lime, Neroli and Rosemary.
Some of Basil’s properties include antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, digestive and insect repellant. Due to the fact that it’s beneficial in fighting off bacteria and odors, this oil is great to add a small amount to food or body fragrances. It makes for a nice refreshing addition to homemade deodorants, especially when combined with oils like Bergamot and Lemon. One of the most regarded qualities of this oil is its ability to uplift the mind and body. Basil can have a positive effect on such mental health struggles as anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, when used in addition to other measures, such as therapy. You can use this oil in a diffuser to help promote mental clarity and alertness. To help combat minor pain and inflammation of the joints, add up to 12 drops to 2 Tablespoons of a carrier oil (and perhaps a couple drops of Clove, Eucalyptus, or Rosemary) and massage gently into the desired area.
