Healthy Hair and Nails with Argan Carrier Oil

by Isabel Corona

The kernels of Argania spinosa are cold pressed to produce an oil that’s pale to golden yellow. Argan oil has a light and distinctive aroma that’s slightly fatty and nutty. It has a shelf life of approximately 24 months when stored in a cool dark place.

If you’re familiar with all-natural beauty and personal care products, you’ve most likely come across the name Argan. This light-weight oil is fast absorbing and restores moisture to skin, hair, and nails with its high quantities of oleic and linoleic acids. It penetrates hair and nails, strengthening them and adding nutrients, such as vitamin E. You can use it for thicker and healthier hair by adding it to homemade shampoo and conditioner or by gently massaging a few drops of pure oil into damp, freshly-washed hair from tips to roots. When using the second method, warm the oil by rubbing it between your hands before applying. You can even add a few drops of essential oil like Rosemary for extra strengthening power. To help reduce dry or itchy scalp, gently massage 2-4 drops of Argan into your scalp every other week. Argan is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which can assist with conditions such as blemishes, wrinkles, and minor injuries when gently massaged into skin. This oil can be used on all skin types.
