Our bodies are amazing machines, with so many different parts that are intricately woven together to help keep us functioning. It really is quite amazing when you stop to think about it!
One of the biggest contributors to a healthy body is “well oxygenated” blood. Having good circulation allows blood vessels to feed oxygen to our brains and organs, as well as promoting healthy cell growth. Once blood vessels leave all the good nutrients that we need to be healthy, they absorb carbon dioxide and other waste, and expel it. Poor circulation means that these organs aren’t receiving the nutrients they need, and inhibits blood flow throughout the body.
It is incredibly important that our blood and its passageways remain healthy and clear. One of the best preventative measures is to live an active and healthy lifestyle. Some recommendations include, getting at least 30 minutes of exercise daily, drinking plenty of water, eating nutrient-rich foods and reducing stress.
Another great method for improving blood circulation is through detox. In this method, you can use essential oils to promote a multitude of different things that encourage healthy blood and blood flow.
Castor
Some studies have shown that this carrier oil can help improve lymphatic drainage and blood circulation by promoting the production of lymphocytes, which attach toxins and bacteria.
Grapefruit
A stimulating oil, Grapefruit helps promote circulation in the lymphatic system and eliminate toxins that build up and prevent drainage.
Juniper
This special oil can act as a diuretic, helping to expunge the body of toxins that can build up and infect the blood and organs.
Lemon
In addition to helping rid your kitchen of unwanted particles, this oil is also beneficial in cleansing the body. Lemon encourages white blood cells to fight the harmful toxins that enter the body, and helps to release them.
Peppermint
Helping to fight infections and the harmful particles they leave behind, Peppermint helps detoxify the body by aiding the respiratory and digestive systems.
Castor Oil Heat Pack for Blood Detox
Ingredients
- Castor Oil
- 2 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 2 drops Juniper Essential Oil
- 2 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
- 2 drops Lemon Essential Oil
- Piece of soft, clean, thick material like flannel, wool or cotton
- Glass bowl or jar
- Hot water bottle or heating pad
- Plastic bag
- Large towel
Instructions
Place your fabric in the bowl, and pour enough castor oil over it to soak it until saturated, but not dripping. Add essential oils one drop at a time. Prepare hot water bottle or heating pad. On a flat surface, put down plastic bag, then place your towel on a flat surface—i.e. bed, couch, floor (the plastic bag helps further prevent the chance of staining from the castor oil). Lie down on the towel, and place your saturated flannel over the affected area of your body. Cover the pack with plastic. Place the heating pad or hot water bottle over the pack and let it sit for at least 45-60 minutes. When the time is up, remove the pack and clean the area with water and a bit of baking soda. You can keep the pack in a plastic bag in a cool place or the refrigerator. To reuse, simply add another Tbsp. of castor oil. Note: Castor Oil can stain clothes, so it is recommended that you wear old clothing prior to application.
