You’ve picked out your favorite essential oils, now it’s time to apply them… but not so fast! These powerful oils are so concentrated that they should not be applied directly to the skin. Although there are countless ways to use and apply essential oils, one of my favorites is by combining them with Carrier Oils.
Like essential oils, each carrier oil has its own unique properties and benefits, and shelf life. Here are three carrier oils that are a great addition to your favorite blend.
Argan
As I’ve discussed before, Argan Oil is particularly beneficial for treating dry and damaged hair. But that’s not all this lightweight and replenishing oil helps… Found in Morocco, this oil has been used to treat skin infections, bug bites and rashes. Packed with vitamins A and E, antioxidants and Omega-6 fatty acids, Argan boosts skin production, which is why it can be found in many anti-aging serums. It’s quickly absorbed by the skin and doesn’t leave an oily residue, making it great for facial application. This oil has been shown to help reduce the appearance and occurrence of blemishes, particularly for those with oil-prone skin. Additionally, it can be used to moisturize lips, nails, hands, feet and the whole body, while reducing the appearance of stretch marks!
Castor
This oil has been used in everything from food to medicine. Castor Oil is added to many modern day medications, as they cannot be ingested in their pure chemical state. For Aromatherapy use, this oil is used to help relieve minor muscle and joint discomfort. A warming oil, Castor promotes increased circulation and reduces inflammation, making it great for massage therapy. Like Argan, it also helps promote healthier hair growth by improving circulation when applied to the scalp after being heated. Since it’s a thicker oil with plenty of vitamins, it’s particularly beneficial for dry skin, as it penetrates and stays put.
Unscented Massage
Made with 100% pure Grapeseed, Sweet Almond, Safflower and Sunflower Oils, our Unscented Massage Oil Blend is specially formulated to hydrate skin. Grapeseed Oil contains vitamins that are anti-inflammatory, making it great for minor skin conditions such as acne and minor sunburns. Sweet Almond Oil is a mild, hypoallergenic oil that can be used on just about everyone (even kids!); its light texture make it great for moisturizing and cleansing skin, which helps reduce the occurrence of acne. Safflower Oil helps replenish moisture to the skin and scalp, without clogging pores. Very rich in vitamin E, Sunflower Oil is a great antioxidant for the body, helping boost skin and immune health. Together these oils work together to nourish the body, while providing easy application, fast absorption and steady grip.
