From muscle strains to period pains, our backs often feel a bit of discomfort. While the causes may be different, the effect is the same. There are a wide variety of remedies to alleviate these pains, and essential oils are one of them. Here are a few oils that can help.
Chamomile
We generally associate Chamomile with sleep and relaxation, but that’s not the only area that it shines in. This calming oil provides relief in a variety of areas and is gentle enough to be used by the whole family—there’s a reason why we include it in blends from Deep Tissue to Sleep. Chamomile can help reduce inflammation and muscle spasms.
Peppermint
Who doesn’t enjoy the soothing properties of Menthol? And Peppermint is packed with this analgesic compound. This oil can ease muscle pain and tension throughout the body—from head to toe. That’s why we included it, along with Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Clove Bud, Lavender, and Sweet Orange, in our Muscle Ice blend. This blend can be found in pure Essential Oil, Roll-On, Massage Spray, Healing Balm, Bath Salt, Bath Bomb, and in a Wellness Kit.
Wintergreen
This powerful essential oil is approximately 99% salicylate, the main ingredient in aspirin, which means that it’s tough on muscle and joint pain. It also means that it can be irritating and sensitizing, so we recommend performing a patch test before use and making sure that you use only small amounts in blends. Since this oil needs to be used with extreme caution, we recommend our pre-formulated Deep Tissue blend, which also contains Camphor, Lavender, Ginger, Chamomile, and Helichrysum, to enjoy the effects without having to worry about how to blend it. Deep Tissue is available as a pure Essential Oil, Massage Spray, Healing Balm, and Bath Salt.
Moody Girl
Yes, we know this is a blend, but it’s too good not to include in the list! If you’re someone who experiences lower back pain during their menstrual cycle, this blend of Geranium, Lavender, Oregano, and Clary Sage is just what you’ve been looking for. These oils help sooth discomfort while also reducing inflammation. We recommend using our pre-diluted Massage Spray to gently rub this blend into your back (it works great on the torso as well). You can enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub with our Bath Salts as well! Moody Girl is also available in pure Essential Oil, Roll-On, Soy Candle, and Wellness Kit.
