During this time you are likely practicing some form of social distancing to help you, your loved ones, and even strangers maintain healthy bodies. While these practices are important to limiting the spread of harmful germs, it’s also important that we engage in activities that help maintain healthy minds and connections to others. Here are some ways that you can stay mentally and physically fit while at home.
Meditation and Yoga
Over the last decade, many of us have taken to studios to achieve and maintain a connected mind and body. With these recent changes, you may want to try going online. Many local studios are offering online options for their students so they can keep up with the practice that they’ve already started. If this isn’t an option available for you, several App-based services are offering discounts or free trial periods to help you get started. You can also start a challenge with your friends to see who maintains their practice the most over a period of time that you choose.
How to incorporate essential oils: During your practice help yourself achieve relaxation by using a diffuser. If you’re looking for meditation support, I suggest Balanced, MBS, No Worries, Renew, and Thankful. If you need help with your yoga practice, Concentration and Energy are great as well!
Arts and Crafts
They aren’t just for the kids! Do you remember how much fun you use to have when you’d crack open a coloring book, and time and cares would just seem to melt away? Well, it’s time to get back to that. There are so many different coloring books out there designed for whatever your interests may be. Dreaming of spending time outdoors or traveling to far off places? There’s a book out there for you. You don’t have to be artistic to enjoy this, you just have to be willing to let go and explore your inner Georgia O’Keefe.
How to incorporate essential oils: While working on your masterpiece, place a cube of Anxious, Fresh Air, Patchouli, or Woods Essential Oil Soy Melties into a warmer to transport your mind to a place of serenity and creativity. Also available in Soy Candles.
Baking
There’s nothing quite like freshly baked cookies right out of the oven! Not only does baking provide you with something tangible and delicious to enjoy at the end, but it benefits you both mentally and emotionally as well. This activity stimulates all the senses (touch, smell, sight, hearing, and most obviously taste) allowing you to be fully present. There’s also a meditative quality that comes with measuring out all of the ingredients, following the steps exactly, and possibly decorating your creations. Additionally, if you’re at home with the kids it gives you all something productive and fun to do as a family. You can teach them a skill and even pass down family recipes while reducing their screen time.
How to incorporate essential oils: There are so many tasty recipes out there that are just calling to have a drop or two of oils like Lavender, Lemon, or Thyme added. One of my favorites is the sweet and tangy Zesty Lemon-Lime Cake that’s great for celebrating special occasions or just another Tuesday. I also recommend trying these Lemon and Lavender Shortbread Cookies or Orange Cinnamon Biscuits to transport yourself to a delightful English countryside. Reading book, comfy blanket, and fireplace not included.
Video Chatting and Letter Writing
Want to connect with your family, friends, or others but distance is keeping you apart? Thankfully we’re living in the 21st Century where there are amazing video conferencing services that allow us to have daily chats, game nights, and even communal movie watching. The distance doesn’t feel so far when we’re able to literally see what our loved ones are doing, and feel like we get to share in their experiences. Another way to feel more connected and share your love is bringing it back to a time before computers and phones bridged the miles. I’m talking about letter writing. Who doesn’t love opening the mail to find a handwritten letter? It’s an unexpected way to share that you care. And who knows, maybe you’ll start a chain of letters that will continue for years?
How to incorporate essential oils: Get gussied up and stay hydrated with nourishing Face Refreshing Mist, Lip Balms and Rugged Riley Grooming Products. You may be miles away, but you still want to look and feel your finest!
