Essential Oils A to Z: Caraway & Carrot Seed

by FabulousFrannie

Want to learn more about essential oils you may be unfamiliar with? This month, I will be talking about Caraway and Carrot Seed. Without further ado let’s get carried away…

Caraway
Steam distilled from the seed of Carum carv, Caraway oil is sweet and spicy with a slight peppery undertone. This oil is a middle note oil that blends well with Basil, Chamomile, Coriander, Frankincense, Ginger, Lavender and Orange.

Caraway is phenomenal for the digestive system. It can be used to help relieve menstrual cramps, gas and heartburn. For gas, add a drop or two to a massage blend (perhaps combining with Ginger or Chamomile) and gently massage into the abdomen. When used in a diffuser it can help with colds and coughing by helping to loosen phlegm.

Carrot Seed
Daucus carota is steam distilled to produce an oil that is earthy, woody and warm. Carrot seed is a middle note oil that blends well with Bergamot, Lemon, Orange and Rosemary.

Carrot Seed is a nourishing oil that can be used to replenish dry or aged skin, simply add a drop or two to homemade body butter. It is great to combine with sweeter or more floral oils for topical applications to help with its somewhat robust aroma—for example Rosemary can work with Carrot Seed to reduce eczema. It can also be used to help with water retention and toxin build-up. To help minimize stress and exhaustion add Carrot Seed to a diffuser or inhaler blend.
