If you’re reading this blog then you either have facial hair, are considering growing it, or perhaps like smooching someone who has it. Well, whatever group you’re in, it’s important to understand what products keep it healthy and hydrated. It’s also helpful to understand the difference between different types of products. Two of the biggest products are Beard Oil and Beard Wax. Let’s discuss…
Beard Oil
Think of this like the conditioner of the beard world. When you wash your hair you most likely use a conditioner to help moisturize and smooth your hair. Your beard hair should be treated no differently, especially since the hair on your face is generally rougher than the hair on your scalp. Using beard oil does the same job as conditioner and, when used on a regular basis, helps soften hair and reduce itchiness and dandruff. It can even minimize split ends and promote fuller hair. And who doesn’t want that?
How should I apply Beard Oil? Ideally you should apply it twice; in the morning and night after thoroughly washing your face and hair. If your beard/mustache/goatee is on the shorter side, apply 2-3 drops are needed; while longer ones will likely need 4-5 drops to provide full nourishment. To apply, add the drops to your palms and rub hands together before gently massaging into hair and skin.
Beard Wax
Continuing with the comparison to your hair regimen, beard wax is unsurprisingly the styling gel/creme/wax component of the equation. It’s what helps keep your hair in place throughout the day, while also providing moisture and other soothing properties that help keep your hair healthy. Its thick consistency (in our case caused by Soy Wax, Shea Butter, and Coconut Oil) is what allows it to keep a firm hold on hair.
How should I apply Beard Wax? Beard wax only needs to be applied as desired, as it’s first and foremost a styling product, with the added benefit of moisturizing. Using your thumb, scrape a dime-sized portion out of the jar and massage in your fingers until softened. Apply to the roots first and move to the tips; once applied completely, style in the desired fashion.
