Finding Focus

by FabulousFrannie

The phrase “unprecedented times” has been used a lot in recent years. This phrase is said to evoke the idea that events are unusual or daunting. It’s with this in mind that many of us are finding it difficult to focus.

When moments like this happen, it’s easy for us to have the expectation that we should be operating at the same level that we always so. That’s simply unrealistic. While it’s important to find ways to help us focus, it’s also important to be patient with yourself and others. We need to practice grace.

One way that we can find focus is through exercise. When you’re staring at a computer screen or completing another task for long periods of time, it’s easy to feel distracted or tired. Taking a short break to go for a walk outside or even around the room can be helpful. In shorter moments you can do some light stretching to get both your muscles and your mind moving. A longer option is taking out the yoga mat and doing some guided practice or meditation. It may seem like taking a break would take time away from productivity, but chances are, you’ll come back refreshed and more zoned in to your work.

You can also incorporate essential oils and products into your day to keep you feeling alert. If your main concern is feeling distracted by other ideas or tasks, we recommend using Attention Blend and products. Made with calming Cedarwood, Lavender, Orange and Vetiver, this blend helps calm the mind and improve focus. Try applying the pre-diluted Roll-On behind ears or to the temples. Concentration Blend (Cypress and Peppermint) has a similar effect by both uplifting and invigorating. Or if you’re more concerned about your energy levels affecting your productivity, use Energy Blend (Bergamot and Rosemary) or Vanilla Latte Blend (Coffee and Vanilla).

Another important element of having good focus is making sure that you’re getting a good night’s rest. Both Relax (Lemon, Grapefruit, Patchouli and Peppermint) and Sleep (Chamomile, Marjoram, Bulgarian Lavender and Vetiver) blends promote more restful slumber, which will make it easier for you to be alert throughout the day. And both are available in delightful pillow spray!
