Lowering Cholesterol with Essential Oils

by FabulousFrannie

Show your heart some love, and help reduce cholesterol levels!

Cholesterol is a fundamental part of how our body operates, and only becomes problematic when levels get too high. This fatty lipid called cholesterol is naturally produced by the liver, and is also contained in many food products. Its purpose is to protect the cell membranes and allow new healthy cells to form. When there is too much cholesterol in the body, plaque starts to form in the arteries, eventually building up into a condition called atherosclerosis. Although eating healthy and maintaining an active lifestyle are important components in keeping cholesterol levels low, some people are predisposed to higher levels due to genetics.

Whether you already have high cholesterol or are looking to take preventative measures, essential oils can be a useful tool for your arsenal.

Bergamot
This oil contains five different flavonoids that make it effective in lowering cholesterol, two of them have even been found to help prevent LDL (bad) cholesterol from depositing plaque. Not only has Bergamot been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol, but recent studies have found that it can help raise HDL (good) cholesterol levels too!

Lemongrass
There are several reasons why this oil is beneficial in lowering cholesterol levels. One such way is that Lemongrass contains compounds called terpenoids that inhibit the production of mevalonic acid, which helps produce cholesterol. It also helps reduce inflammation, which can contribute to plaque build-up.

Rosemary
A great oil to add to your favorite dish, Rosemary can be helpful in reducing cholesterol since it contains a very high level of antioxidants. Some studies have also found that it provides cardiovascular support.

In order for these oils to be beneficial, would they need to be ingested and if so, what would be a proper dosage of your oils ?

Thanks so much 🙂

These essential oils listed to help lower cholestrol can be used in many different ways. They can be diffused into the air, inhaled, applied topically or taken internally in very small amounts. My suggestion is to create a massage blend with the oils listed (up to 12 drops for adults) and your favorite carrier oil (about 2 Tbsp.). You can apply this blend to all of your pressure points and the bottoms of your feet. You could also add a drop or two of Rosemary to your favorite dishes or recipes. Any way you choose to use these oils they will offer benefits to you and your well-being.

This is a great article! Thank you for posting it. Could you give suggestions on how to use these? I assume use a carrier oil and apply them to the body, but is there a specific location(s) to apply? Anything could be helpful! Thank you so much.

Re: lowering cholesterol with essential oils

Is it effective through diffusing, massage or (and I realize you don’t typically recommend ingesting) but ingesting?

Sometimes it’s hard to wrap my head around how something can help us internally when we aren’t taking it internally.

Thanks!

Amy, in a sence when you diffuse the oils, you do ingest it through your breathing. And through your skin.

What are the best ways to use these oils to lower cholesterol? Is diffusing enough or should they be applied directly to the skin?

So do you put these in your food or how do you use them?

You use these oils by: ingesting, on foods or in water, or diffusing, or through your skin and/or feet. Your feet have the biggest pores on your body so they absorbe the most. I’ve been using Fabulous Frannies oils for about a year now. They are awesome! And the price? You won’t find any better.
