Essential Oils to Help Boost Fertility

by FabulousFrannie

Are you and your partner trying to conceive, but experiencing difficulty? You’re not alone. According to the Mayo Clinic, 10-15% of Americans struggle with infertility, as defined as an inability to get pregnant after at least one year of actively trying. But, if you fall into this category, there’s hope. There are many different treatments and options for those dealing with fertility concerns.

One thing to know is that there are many different reasons why someone may be experiencing infertility. For women, some of the factors that may contribute to infertility include disorders affecting ovulation (think infrequent periods), uterine or cervical abnormalities, and endometriosis. Age is also a factor for women, as after the age of 37 fertility declines drastically. For men, factors include abnormal sperm production and delivery, and overexposure to dangerous environmental factors like pesticides, alcohol, or smoking. Previous exposure to cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation can also affect fertility in both men and women.

Certain healthy lifestyle choices can help both women and men increase their fertility. One such factor is smoking, both partners should abstain from this practice to improve the chances of conceiving and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Likewise, women and men should refrain from drinking alcohol while trying to conceive. As stated above both drinking and smoking can decrease sperm count for men. Men and women both need to make sure that they maintain a healthy bodyweight and are neither over- or underweight. Exercising moderately to maintain a healthy weight, but not too much as to become underweight and potentially affect the regularity of menstruation, is important for women.

Additionally, there are a few essential oils that may help with different factors surrounding fertility in women and men.

Clary Sage
We’ve already shared how Clary Sage is beneficial for women, but it’s great for men too! Clary Sage can help with impotence by helping balancing hormones. For women, this oil helps stimulate the pituitary gland, helping the flow of estrogen and in turn helping regulate menstruation. Clary Sage is great for use by women who have endometriosis. Both partners can benefit from its calming effects.

Geranium
Geranium works to help balance hormones and the endocrine system. This oil can also help remove excess toxins from the body. Beneficial for both partners.

Lavender
For women, Lavender can help regulate the menstrual cycle. This oil is beneficial for women with endometriosis to use as it’s gentle and soothing. It can also help ease anxious feelings.

Vetiver
Acting as a tonic to the reproductive system, Vetiver is good for use by men. This oil can help relax underlying stress and anger that can impact fertility, while also acting as an aphrodisiac.

Ylang Ylang
This aphrodisiac helps stimulate the reproductive organs. Ylang Ylang also supports balanced hormones.

What is the best way to use the oils for fertility? Diffuse or topically apply?

Hello Kat,

Essential oils can be used in many different ways to boost fertility. Topical application and Diffusion are both great methods to enjoy the benefits of these oils. I would suggest a combination of both when using these oils to boost fertility. You can combine the oils with a carrier oil and massage into your abdomen, bottoms of feet and pressure points as well as diffusing them throughout the day in your home, office or car. I really love using a Lava diffusing bracelet to diffuse the oils throughout the day as well.
