Sometimes sleep is hard to come by…. You’ve had the summer to relax, but along with crisper weather, fall has brought with it school, extra-curricular activities and endless boardroom meetings. Well, meet your new best friend… Vetiver.
Vetiver is one of the most soothing and relaxing essential oils out there. This rich and earthy oil helps promote sleep by relieving anxious feelings and anger, two major inhibitors of quality rest. Below is a recipe for your own diffuser blend, which I suggest using an hour or so before you would like to fall asleep.
Sleep Tight Diffuser Blend
Ingredients
- 3 drops Chamomile Essential Oil
- 2 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 1 drop Vetiver Essential Oil
Instructions
Place essential oils in diffuser before getting in bed and enjoy! Be sure to add one drop at a time because number of drops will vary depending on size and type of diffuser used.
Vetiver can also be used for meditation, as it balances the Root Chakra. It’s beneficial for fighting mild acne and oily skin too.
Need help relaxing at the end of the day? Think about adding Sleep Bath Salts to a warm bath (for an extra soothing punch, burn a Lavender Candle on a dry surface nearby). I also recommend applying diluted Vetiver or Sleep Blend to the temples and back of neck shortly before climbing into bed.
Please note: Vetiver has a fairly distinct aroma, so it is best to use in combination with other essential oils.

Regarding dabbing diluted vetiver or sleep blend to the temples and back of neck, my question is diluted to what strength?
Thanks.
Kristin, it depends on who the blend/application is for. If it’s for an adult, the dilution ration is 2% or up to 12 drops for every 2 Tbsp. of carrier oil you use. For children, pregnant women or the elderly, you want to cut the ratio in half, so up to 6 drops for every 2 Tbsp. carrier oil. Let me know if you have any further questions!
I see that the attention oil has vetiver, cedar wood, and lavender which I have been told to use to promote sleep. Will this attention blend promote sleep in a 16 month old. With what I have read this isn’t what the actual blend is used for. Also wondering if a few undiluted drops on a pillow is safe or is diluting with a carrier better?
Shila, you are correct, Vetiver and Lavender are fantastic for promoting sleep! But what makes them great for sleep is also what makes the Attention Blend ideal for focusing attention — their calming properties. In children or adults who have trouble focusing on specific tasks, this blend helps to calm their mind while the Orange and Cedarwood help to increase focus. Orange specifically helps invigorate and energize the mind as well, meaning that it is not the most ideal oil for application prior to sleep. I would suggest using our Sleep Blend instead; it can be used on a pillow but should be mixed with water before hand.
I’m looking for oils for a friend who has anxiety, but lavender gives her a migraine. What would be a good substitute that she could mix with vetiver?
Audra, A few oils that blend well with Vetiver and can help alleviate anxious feelings are Chamomile, Frankincense, and Patchouli. All three of these oils help calm the mind, body, and spirit. Hope your friend enjoys!
