Over time, Patchouli has become associated with the hippie movement (you know, free love, the seventies… am I dating myself?). To relegate this essential oil to one specific group and time is to miss out on all of its wonderful effects. Some of these include: reducing tension and anxious feelings, and helping you sleep better.
As spring arrives, you may be in the process of cleaning all the rooms in your house. Why not upgrade your beauty regimen as well? Long used in skin care, Patchouli helps with many skin problems such as mild acne, dry skin and inflammation. It’s also used in anti-aging skin care products due to its ability to rejuvenate skin cells. If your hair is prone to flake, you might consider using it in your shampoo (I’ve included a recipe below).
Patch-free Hair with Patchouli Oil
- 1 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1 dollop Shampoo
- 2 drops Patchouli Essential Oil
Add 2 drops Patchouli and 1 tsp. Baking Soda to a single application of Shampoo in a small bowl, blend together with your finger. Use as needed.
- 1/4 c. Cornstarch
- 1/4 c. Baking Soda
- 6-8 Tbsp. Coconut Carrier Oil
- 5-10 drops Patchouli Essential Oil
- 5-10 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
- 10-15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 1 Jar with seal
In a small bowl, mix together Baking Soda and Cornstarch. Stir in enough Coconut Oil to make the mixture moist but not wet. Blend in Essential Oils and transfer mixture to jar. Apply in small amounts (a little goes a long way).
