Essentially Beautiful: Reducing Skin Imperfections

by FabulousFrannie

Age is a part of life… And it shows itself in some beautiful ways (rich memories, learned lessons, cherished relationships) and not-so-glamorous ways (stretch marks, varicose veins, wrinkles). These things may be the facts of life, but there are some measures you can take to help reduce their appearance.

Stretch Marks
Often a result of weight loss or gain, stretch marks appear after the skin has been stretched out for an extended period of time. Lavender can be used to help rejuvenate skin, as well as soothe and moisturize it. Patchouli promotes moisture as well, while also stimulating skin cell regeneration to minimize the appearance of stretch marks and prevent further marks from forming.

Varicose Veins
Why do our veins sometimes get a spidery appearance with age? Varicose veins result when there is pressure exerted on the veins, and blood pools and bulges. This tends to happen when the veins are weak and unable to transport blood to the heart and other parts of the body. One essential oil that can help reduce the appearance of varicose veins by promoting increased circulation in Cypress. Another great oil that can help improve circulation is Clary Sage. This oil also helps the appearance of varicose veins by calming swelling and inflammation.

Wrinkles
After our early twenties, our skin starts producing less and less collagen (which helps keep skin thick, firm and resilient to harmful particles), and elastin (which gives skin its elasticity). These are amplified when we are over-exposed to the sun or partake in harmful activities like smoking. Frankincense is fantastic for improving the skin’s appearance, through promoting cell regeneration, hydration and elasticity. It can also be beneficial in minimizing and reducing further wrinkling by helping to tighten loose skin. Due in part to its anti-inflammatory properties, Sandalwood helps soothe and smooth skin, diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
