Can you stomach it? Upset stomachs can be caused by a wide variety of reasons, from motion sickness to eating something that doesn’t agree with you to more complex and severe medical conditions. Some of the symptoms you may experience are heartburn, nausea, bloating and gas. Going about your day is difficult when this happens, so it’s helpful to have some tools that can ease or eliminate these feelings.
Like with many other things that ail us, drinking water helps immensely. In this case, it allows your body to digest and absorb nutrients that can otherwise turn into acids that upset the stomach. Drinking water is also important to combat dehydration when you experience vomiting and diarrhea. One thing to avoid is lying down, as it can cause the acid in your stomach to travel upwards and cause heartburn. Eating and drinking foods with “live and active cultures” (such as yogurt) can also help keep your gut healthy.
And, of course, here are some essential oils that can help you stay feeling your best. All of these oils can be diluted with a carrier oil and applied as a soothing and therapeutic stomach rub. They can be used to both alleviate and try to prevent some of the symptoms listed above.
Caraway
It’s hard not to get carried away with how great this oil is for the digestive system. Caraway helps relieve gas and heartburn. This oil blends well with Basil Sweet and Chamomile.
Cumin
We’re here to “gas up” this amazing herb. Cumin is a wonder in combatting gas and bloating since it fights stomach acidity. It blends well with Caraway and Rosemary. Other herbs that are beneficial include Basil Sweet, Fennel, Garlic, Oregano, Peppermint, Rosemary and Thyme.
Ginger
This entry should come as no surprise. Ginger tea has long been heralded as a tonic for nausea and bloating… and for good reason. Ginger helps the body eliminate harmful toxins that contribute to indigestion. This oil blends well with Cinnamon and Turmeric. Other spices that help with digestive health are Cinnamon, Clove and Turmeric.
Tummy Ease Blend
We have to include this soothing blend of Tangerine, Spearmint, Ginger, and Fennel essential oils on this list. Tummy Ease Blend helps settle mild indigestion, heartburn and gas so you can enjoy your day. We currently offer this blend in pure essential oil, pre-diluted Roll-On and Massage Spray.
